Becoming Your Own Best Friend
Becoming your own best friend is one of the smartest things you can do for your career success.
When we can look within and draw upon our own intuition and strength to influence our decision-making, we give ourselves an incredible advantage in life. Specifically, the way we control our thoughts will determine how we feel and ultimately, the actions we take. Here is why becoming your own best friend can have the greatest impact on your future success.
We are constantly having silent, internal conversations with ourselves. For most of us, this happens unconsciously. But when we begin to focus on these conversations and begin to actually control what we’re saying to ourselves, all sorts of new possibilities open up to us.
The key is to transform our negative self-talk into positive self-talk. Negative self-talk can lead to debilitating inaction and self doubt.. You don’t get the results you want in life because you’ve already convinced yourself that you can’t… or that you don’t deserve great results. When you turn this around and start telling yourself that you are capable and deserving, the world suddenly becomes a much brighter place. You see people and situations differently. You become powerful.
Everything we experience in our lives, be it material or internal, begins with the thoughts in our head. Change the way you think and you change the way you feel. Change the way you feel and you will change the way you behave. Change your behavior and you change your reality. When problems arise, you can handle them quickly and graciously. When life knocks you down, you can get back on your feet within minutes.
Directing your mind in a way that produces positive energy and optimism allows you to see problems for what they are because you are not being emotionally crushed by them. Actually, most problems become mere challenges that you don’t mind solving. In fact, sometimes you enjoy solving them!
When you hear people talking about “mixed emotions,” that is a sure sign that they are not controlling their self-talk. When we take control, we can choose if we want to be negative and tear ourselves down, or be strong, confident, and positive so that we can enjoy our lives and produce amazing results.
Daily Self-Talk – How to Keep It Positive
Developing a new habit of using positive self-talk on a consistent, daily basis is a great way to start thinking and talking in a new way. Unfortunately, you may be starting with a negative thought pattern that has been well-established through years of practice, so don’t worry if you don’t magically become positive overnight. Just be patient and consistent.
A great way to develop this habit is to repeat positive, emotion-generating affirmations at least fifty times each day. Just think of something you would like to believe about yourself or life in general, write it down in clear, positive words, and repeat these words (aloud is better, but silently is okay, too) with as much positive emotion as you can over and over again. Why does the affirmation need to be emotion-generating? Because if you don’t get excited about what you’re saying it won’t have the same effect. The power of cultivating a positive dialogue with yourself is undeniable. You can break addictions, dramatically enhance your self-confidence, improve your relationships, earn more money, enjoy better health, and live your best life each and every day.
Examples of Positive Affirmations:
- “I am an effective problem-solver. I am far more powerful than my problems and can handle them with ease.”
- “I love challenges. I was born for challenges. Come on, life, give me more challenges!”
- “I am an exceptional leader. I make this world a better place by setting a stunning example of confidence, effectiveness, and generosity.”
- “I radiate vibrant health and energy. I am a living example of physical health and fitness.”
- “I love life and life loves me!”
